Nalandabodhi New York offers a comprehensive curriculum in Buddhist studies, which adapts the traditional curriculum taught in Tibetan Buddhist educational academies for Western audiences. Students progress sequentially through basic, Buddhist introductory topics, the increasingly complex topics of the Hinayana and Mahayana studies, and conclude with the subtleties of the Vajrayana.
The core curricular materials are drawn primarily from the oral teachings of The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and his teacher, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. Evening classes are held weekly and discussion and review of the week’s material is preceded by meditation and concluded with songs. The body of the curriculum is a two year progression through the Hinayana and Mahayana vehicles. We have either written or oral exchanges on mid-term and final exam dates. Our study year allows for a long, summer break.

This first year introduces the Science of Mind, The Heart of Renunciation, the Hinayana philosophical schools, Vaibhashika and Sautrantika, the meditation practices of shamatha and vipashana, and the obstacles and remedies to practice.
