SPECIAL EVENTS
Lively Thursdays: Taking the Dharma into Your World
Our daily lives are not a distraction from Buddhist teaching, but the arena for its fulfillment. Lively Thursdays will feature fresh talks on how to take Buddhist wisdom into everyday life. Please join us for lively and stimulating discussions. There will be a reception following each discussion.
June 25
With Carlos Ferreyros & Julia Grace
Working to bring buddhadharma to prisoners in the prison system is tremendously inspiring work but demands skill and integrity. Prison is a place of great suffering and hopelessness, but that also creates strong motivation to seek spiritual meaning. Julia and Carlos will share with you their experiences and challenges working with prisoners, including communicating, visiting, and developing a sangha in the jail system.
July 2
With Tomas Sander
The Buddha concerned himself with reducing people’s suffering, teaching them how to lead happier, more satisfying lives. Positive psychology is a recent, thriving, subfield of psychology that studies scientifically what distinguishes very happy people from those who are “just neutral”. In this talk, Tomas will review key findings that add insights and empirically verified methods for achieving greater happiness.
July 9
With Rosemary Bakker
There are many ways to work with the pain, loss, and impermanence we all encounter in our lives. The dharma tells us that each life situation is a personal teaching, but often we cannot find the teaching or experience the wisdom! In this presentation, Rosemary will share with you how she explored the pain of death and grief through the medium of photography to discover transformation and a deeper meaning.
July 16
With Jonathan Bakker
The current recession creates difficulties for almost everyone. In this environment, any kind of economic or health problem becomes even more pronounced. Instead of dealing with these difficulties by struggling against them, the dharma recommends a combination of wisdom and compassion. Jonathan will discuss various economic and health challenges he faced during his careers in the university and on Wall Street and how he discovered the possibility of living a full life in the face of these challenges.

July 10 - 12
With Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche
Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche will be teaching at Nalandabodhi New York in his first visit to the region. He has excelled in various fields of general Buddhist studies and, particularly, those of the Nyingmapa School, and has manifested all the wonderful qualities of a 'Precious-One'. His great knowledge, compassionate heart, dedicated nature and ability to guide beings will manifest in this weekend program.
